Thanksgiving Turkey Centerpiece

Thanksgiving is a special time of the year for Americans to celebrate what they’re thankful for.

For many families, it’s a time to be together, enjoy good food, watch football and play games.

There are many symbols that go along with Thanksgiving. The most recognizable being the turkey!

Every year I read, “Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving” with my class. Last year I made a “craftivity” for the students to do as a way to reflect on the story. You can find out more about this activity, including how to get it for free, by clicking here.

This year, I wanted the students to be able to take the turkeys they saved home with them! In the story by Dav Pilkey, the students sneak the turkeys off the farm and took them home to be Thanksgiving guests. With the centerpiece, my students were able to do the same.

You will need:
– toilet paper rolls (one per student) *you can also use paper towel rolls and cut them into thirds*
– a copy of the turkey activity (see below)
– crayons
– glue

Students color and cut out all the parts of their turkey. Instead of using the feathers to color, you could also use the fake feathers from a craft store.

You may access and download the activity here.
