Save the Turkeys!

With Thanksgiving right around the corner, there are a handful of books I enjoy reading out loud to my students. One of them being Dav Pilkey’s “Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving.”

“Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving” tells the tale of a class on a field trip to a local turkey farm. The students enjoy meeting and playing with the turkeys until the moment they learn what will soon happen to the turkeys.

The story is adorable and fun and the students get a kcik out of it every year. This year I wanted to prompt the discussion of “What would YOU do to save the turkeys?”

From there, the idea was born! What better way to display your writing than pairing it up with a turkey? I used Adobe Illustrator to draw the turkey.

My students really enjoyed making their turkeys and writing about how they would save (or in one student’s case- NOT save) the turkeys.
