All About Melissa, Creator of The Learning Ladybug
My name is Melissa Chapple. I began my journey at Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio. I graduated with a BA in Early Childhood Education in 2006. I am a member of the Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority and the Kappa Delta Pi Education Society.
Soon after graduating, I was hired by Gaston County Schools in North Carolina. I made a big decision to move, and have been here ever since! I have been teaching at Springfield Elementary (almost) my entire career. I did teach at another Gaston County School, Cherryville Elementary, for one year. I went back to Springfield because it is my home! I have taught Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade. Second Grade curriculum has been my favorite. I am the mommy to fur babies, Piper and AIsling. Piper is a chiweenie (chihuahua/dachshund) and Aisling is a ratchi (rat terrier/chihuahua).
I enjoy learning and trying new things. I like to stay up to date on the latest and greatest teaching tools.
I have a passion for integrating technology into education (the correct way). I am also the Class Dojo Mentor for my school as well as a proud Class Dojo Ambassador! Learn more about Class Dojo here!
I often get asked “Why ladybugs?” Ladybugs have always been a special symbol for me. Ladybugs are known to be a good luck symbol. It is also the symbol in my sorority, Alpha Sigma Alpha. Ladybugs were also special to my late aunt. When I see one, I always think of her. I decided to use ladybugs in my own classroom and then into my brand. Seeing one always makes me smile. I love being known as “The ladybug queen.” My students as well as students from other classes even bring me lots of hand drawn pictures of ladybugs just because they know how much I love them!
